In the business of construction, coordination between various types of people is very important. There is need for architects, engineers and contractors, and on the other hand carpenters, bricklayers and many others.
The architect is responsible $ for the planning, designing and supervising of construction works. The architect consults clients, plans of structures and prepares sketches of proposed buildings.
Apart from architects, there are many other service people who are required in construction business.
The work of a contractor is managing an entire construction project and assuming full responsibility for its completion at a time and cost specified in the contract.
Highway contractors construct roads, streets, parkways, highways, bridges, etc. Heavy construction and utilities contractors construct railroad, irrigation, flood control and water-power development projects dams, harbors, industries, etc.
The job of a surveyor is to complete preliminaries required for the construction activity, land surveying. A surveyor's work is to take linear and angular measurements of land, applying the principals of geometry. This is done to ensure that the location and layout of the building of project is feasible.
The work of skilled craftsmen is required in the construction business. There are a$number of skilled trades required in the construction business.
Those handling finishing work include lathers, marbles, setters, tile setters, air-conditioning mechanics, electricians, sheet metal workers, etc.
There are also a large number of construction laborers employed on construction sites that perform various tasks such as loading and unloading of material, mixing of mortars, etc.
 
Educational Qualificatmon
An Architect needs to have a degree/diploma in Architecture.
A degree/diploma from a recognized institution is necessary to be a Town and Country planner.
For civil engineering positions, Bachelor's degree in civil/structural engineering is needed.
Contractors are generally qualified who develop their skills on the job.
A surveyor needs to have a certificate in surveying.
All Skilled trades require requisite training from Industrial Training Institutes or Training under the apprenticeship scheme in the concerned field.
Degree courses in architecture are available in approximately thirty-one universities and institutions in India. The minimum educational qualification is 10 + 2 with English, science and Mathematics. In most Institutes selections is done through an entrance examination, the duration of the course varies from four to five years
 
Job Prospects
Employment opportunities are available in public works departments, the Archaeological department, Ministry of defense, Department of Railways, Post and Telegraphs and public$sector undertakings. Private sector companies and local bodies also offer opening to architects.
Town and country planers can find employment opportunities in the town and country planning departments of the Central and State departments, planning and development authorities for cities and regions, housing boards, local bodies and agencies responsible for developing new towns and cities. Architects with some experience can set up their own business and choose private contractor ship. Consultancy services in other construction disciplines can also be encouraging if one possesses strong business abilities.
 
Remuneration
Qualified Architects can start with a salary of Rs. 7000-11000 in government organizations.
