Today's photography is very sophisticated and at times even a layman can click pictures with automatic adjustments. But at the same time, to become a good photographer, one needs to acquires specialized skills. Photograph has today become very lucrative career proposition.
 
The Work:
There are several areas of photography and success in each of them depends on the kind of ability and skills one has in himself. For example, portrait photography is taking pictures of individuals or small groups. The subjects varies from pets, children, family, objects etc.
In commercial photography, a photographer takes pictures of merchandise, exteriors and interiors, machinery, both indoors and outdoors and products, tabletop pictures which are generally used for advertising and selling purposes. Commercial photography includes taking pictures and annual reports. They are also often used in calendars and company posters.
Fashion photography is another growing area in India. As fashion is gradually becoming an integral part of the society, new designers and models are constantly churning out new portfolio and photographers are experimenting with new themes. Often these shoots are done inside the studio where there are proper lighting and related props.
No formal education is required to become a photographer. All depends on the person's ability and an eye for photography. But with increasing competition and opening up of newer avenues, many private run photography schools are mushrooming. Coupled with it, there are few government-aided schools where photography as a vocation is being taught. But as said earlier all depends on the person's aptitude.
 
Opportunities:
Opportunities in the field of photography are plenty. With the boom in the media and newer avenues of merchandising opening up, photographers who are good at their work are bound to do really well. Freelancing is gradually becoming very popular amongst a large number of photographers. Those who can withstand the pressure and challenges will always be a winner in photography.
 
Remuneration:
Being shutterbug can be really lucrative. While beginners can expect to earn around Rs. 500 per day on an assignment, established ones can make up to Rs. 60,000 or more for the same. Be warned that those in the latter category are few and far between.
