Civil Services Examination
Preliminary & Main
This competitive examination comprises two successive stages:
(i) Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination
(ii) Civil Services (Main) Examination
The Preliminary examination is basically a screening test. Marks obtained in the preliminary examination are not taken into account when determining the final order of merit. Candidates declared qualified for admission to the Main Examination have to apply again in the detailed application form supplied by the Commission.
The interview is a test of the candidate’s mental alertness, critical power of assimilation, clear and logical exposition, balance of judgment, variety and depth of interest, leadership, and intellectual and moral integrity. Total marks obtained in both the written examination and interview determine the candidate’s ultimate position in the merit list.
