The Hotel and catering industry, in our country is classified under the hospitality industry. The ongoing boom in travel, therefore, spell equally golden times for the hotel and catering industry. Admission to Various Institutes:
Admission test to various Hotel Management courses takes place in the month of March and April. Details can be procured from the respective institutes listed below. Pay and perks in hotel is very promising and if one shows results, there is no dearth to the level of remuneration.
There are various eligibility criteria for admission to various institutes.
   
Bullet For apprenticeship/ food craft institutes:
  A tenth class pass in 10+2 system.
Bullet Hotel Management Institute :
  Minimum age sixteen years, school leaving certificate in 10+2 system, English as a compulsory subject.
Bullet Management Training schemes:
  Graduation in any discipline from a recognized university
The selection procedure for all the institutes of hotel management includes a written test and Interview. In addition to this, admission to course run by some private sector hotel and to management training schemes would also depend on the candidate’s performance in a group discussion and personality test.
After a degree is achieved, one can join a hotel at the lower or middle management level. By joining a hotel as a trainee, one can be absorbed into its management cadre at the end of training . For positions in areas such as Front Office, no formal training is required . As this department is the public face of the organization, fresh graduates who are good looking and smart are recruited.
Those joining apprenticeship/ Training schemes are usually absorbed by the hotel chain imparting training and recruited under contract. With increasing internationalization, jobs in hoteliering are also likely to open up internationally, offering better growth.
