A career
in Law attaches great prestige as one can rub shoulders
with big wings and good money thereby leading an affluent
life style. Secondly, successful lawyers are glamorized
by the media and lead a high profile public life. Good lawyers
are reasonably well-paid. Though, several others do find
very hard to achieve success. The profession of law is a
highly competitive business, and in some ways it is becoming
harder to make a mark. But while your earnings are often
modest to begin with, they do increase with experience and
expertise. At the pinnacle of his/ her career a lawyer can
earn lakhs of rupees per month. |

Several Universities also offer a
2-year (non-professional) BAL degree. That stand for Bachelor
of Academic Law. This Degree, however, does not entitle
you to practice or argue in court of Law. You could, of
course , join a solicitor’s firm and disperse legal
advice but you cannot do any active lawyering. |
Master of Law or L.L.M. is broad specialization
in fields, such as Constitutional Law , Criminal Law, International
Law, Commercial Law etc. L.L.M. is not necessary at all
for being a practicing lawyer. It is not a precondition
for a roaring law practice but many feel that L.L.M. gives
a deeper insight into the legal process and legal knowledge.
For those of you who are interested in doing your L.L.M.
abroad, specially in the USA the course is only for one
academic year. TO qualify one has to clear two exams TOEFL,
which is compulsory and LSAT, which is optional. |
The foreign schools which offer LCM
Course are, viz, Yale, Harvard, Cornell, Columbia, NYSU
and University of California. Some places, especially UCLA
and a number of British institutes and universities offer
a one year LL.M. course for which either TOEFL or the British
Council’s Language test is a requirement. British
universities appear to be more selective. |

of the word. |
