and the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences,
Chandigrah. |

One-year Certificate courses
in laboratory technology are available in various
institutions, including the GKM Educational Istitution
Trust in Bangalore. The Pant Institute of Technology
offers a two-year diploms course for medical laboratory
technicians. These courses are available for candidates
who have cleared the class X examination. |

Radiography: |
|
To become a successful radiographer,
the candidate is required to pass 10+2, with a minimum
of 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
Postgraduate courses are also available for graduates.
Various institutions all over the country offer professional
training in radiography, both at the graduate and
post-graduate level. The duration of these courses
varies between one to two years. |

One-year PG diploma certificate
courses in radiography are offered by various institutes,
including the KG Hospital in Vishakhapanam and Osmania
General Hospital in Hyderabad. The PG Institute of
Medical Education and Research at Chandigarh offers
a two-year degree course in radiotherapy to candidates
who have cleared the pre-medical examination. |

Certificate courses in radiography
of eighteen months' duration are offered at various
institutions. Prominent among these are the Madras
Medical College, SMS Hosp, Jaipur and the Radiographer
Training Centre at GB Hospital in Tripura. |

Certificate courses of a
year's duration are offered at the SCB Medical College
in Cuttack, and the VSS Medical College in Burla among
others. |

Speech Therapy: |
|
A speech therapist can gain
employment only after having acquired a degree or
a postgraduate qualification in speech therapy. |

One can take up a course at the B.Sc.
level who have cleared the intermediate with science
background. The B.Sc. courses are of three years'
duration. At the M.Sc. level, courses in speech therapy
are offered to graduates in speech therapy. The M.Sc.
course is a two-year programme. |

Various institutions in the country
offer courses in speech and hearing. The All Institute
of Speech and Healing, New Delhi offers an M.Sc. course
in speech pathology and audio logy. |

B.Sc. courses in speech therapy and
hearing are offered at the All India Institute of
Speech and Hearing in Mysore, the Ali Yavar Jung National
Institute for the Hearing Handicapped in Mumbai, All
India Institute for the Medical Sciences in New Delhi
and the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education
and Research in Chandigarh. |

in the country offer courses in occupational therapy.
The rehabilitation Council of India, based in New
Delhi, conducts joint entrance examination for admission
to the first year of the professional courses in physiotherapy
and occupational therapy. These courses are available
as B.Sc. courses of three and a half years duration
at the National Institute of Rehabilitation Training
and Research in Cuttuck, and the National Institute
for the Orthopaedically Handicapped in Calcutta. The
joint entrance examination is held at 11 centers in
the country, including in the country, including Ahmedabad,
Allah bad, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Mumbai, Calcutta,
Delhi, Gauhati, Chennai, Ranchi and Trivandrum. |

The Medical College, in
Nagpur and the University of Madras offer three-year
degree courses in occupational therapy. The Institute
of Physically Handicapped, in New Delhi, offers a
three-year diploma course in occupational therapy,
as well as a Certificate course which is of 35 weeks'
duration. Patna Medical College, in Bihar, provides
a two-year diploma course in occupational therapy.

the 10 + 2 or equivalent examination, with a background
in science, are eligible for the training programme
which is of two to three years' duration. |

Prominent among the various
institutions offering training in prothetic and orthotic
engineering are the National Institute of Rehabilitation.
Training and Research in Cuttck, and The National
Institute for the Orthopaedically Handicapped in Calcutta.
Admission to these institutes is on the basis of an
entrance examination, conducted by the Rehabilitation
Council of India in New Delhi. These courses are of
two years duration. |

Diploma courses are also
offered at the Department of Rehabilitation at the
Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi and the Institute for
the Physically Handicapped, New Delhi. Degree courses
are available at the Government Medical College in
Chennai , Christian Medical College in Vellore and
the AIIPM. |

Optometry / Ophthalmic
Technology: |
|
Students who wish to do
the degree or diploma courses in the ophthalmic technology
should have cleared the 10 + 2 or equivalent examination,
with a minimum of 50 % marks in physics, Chemistry
and Biology. |

of Medical Sciences in New Delhi offers a B. Sc. in
optometry. Diploma courses in ophthalmic technology,
of thee years' duration, are available at the Jaslok
Hospital in Mumbai, the KEM Hospital, Mumbai and the
BYL Nair Hospital , also in Mumbai. |

duration are also available in various institutions,
including the Government Opthalmic Hospital in Chennai
